The Salvation Army Manukau held the first graduation for Tamaliki Ohi Kaiga

The Salvation Army Manukau held the first graduation for Tamaliki Ohi Kaiga, a pilot program that aims to support tamaliki (Pasifika Youth) and their fanau (families) to reconnect with their cultures and communities. AACT Trustee Nick Bakulick was delighted to participate in the ceremony which saw recent participants come together with their families and community to celebrate their success in completing the program over the past 7 months with a Po Fatele (tokelauan celebration). Participants shared their beautiful stories of personal growth and reconnections with culture through the work of the program, they performed cultural items from their heritage and walked across the stage to complete their accomplishments thus far. These participants will now become mentors to new participants coming in the program thus giving back and  building their own standing as respected adults in their communities.
